What Exactly is Reality Television?

After watching television and seeing the numerous ads for various hit reality show, I came upon the question what’s the deal with reality television shows? I never have been a fan of reality television shows, they never strike me as interesting or I have to see it. Perhaps it’s the fact that the first reality show that I watch was Survivor and the only reason why is because my mother liked to watch it. Maybe that’s just what I think of when I hear reality show. I would not consider MTV’S Real World or Laguna Beach reality shows. To me, what MTV claims to show as reality is hit clips from recording put in place to make an interesting show. Then there’s dating “reality shows” like The Bachelor. I will admit, I use to enjoy this show but then it was on its third season and I wonder could this people really be looking for love or their five seconds of frame. I become certain that it was definitely for the frame due to the fact looking for the right one on national television doesn’t seem realistic at all. It makes me wonder if directors and producers just aren’t trying like they used to, to find ideas for television shows. I also find myself wondering what exactly reality television is.
